Milan, November 1 (LaPresse) – Carabinieri officers from the Como Provincial Command have executed a precautionary detention order issued by the Como Preliminary Investigations Judge at the request of the local Public Prosecutor’s Office against Carmine Civitillo, 76, believed to be the murderer of his ex-wife, Patrizia Monteleone, a severely disabled woman, whose body was found on September 27 in the swimming pool of her ex-husband’s home in Erba (CO). The investigation, ordered and coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and carried out by the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command’s Investigative Unit and the Operations Section of the Como Company, was launched immediately after the woman was found unconscious in the swimming pool of her ex-husband’s home. Her ex-husband had alerted emergency services after calling his son. The woman, disabled and with severe walking difficulties, had been living in her ex-husband’s home for several months, along with her daughter and her partner. The investigation, which focused on the hypothesis that the death was the result of homicide due to the strong doubts raised following initial inspections, allowed for the collection of numerous corroborating elements of the prosecution’s case and the construction of a solid body of evidence, consisting of multiple and converging serious indications of guilt. It was therefore possible to ascertain that on the morning of September 27, the suspect, after forcefully compressing the woman’s mouth and pushing her to the edge of the pool in his wheelchair (the victim was semi-paralyzed and unable to walk), had thrown her into the water, causing her death. He subsequently alerted his estranged son and reported the situation to him, to the paramedics who responded to the scene, and to the Carabinieri officers, who, upon returning home, had found his ex-wife’s lifeless body in the water. It was therefore possible to ascertain that on the morning of September 27, the suspect, after forcefully clamping the woman’s mouth shut and pushing her to the edge of the pool in his wheelchair (the victim was semi-paralyzed and unable to walk), had thrown her into the water, causing her death. He subsequently alerted his estranged son and reported to him, to the paramedics who arrived on the scene, and to the Carabinieri officers that, upon returning home, he had found his ex-wife’s lifeless body in the water. Investigative activities (technical and scientific assessments, forensic examinations, analysis of video surveillance systems, wiretaps, and taking statements) allowed us to refute the suspect’s version and reconstruct the murder. Further evidence was acquired from in-depth on-site inspections and technical tests conducted by the Carabinieri Investigative Unit, as well as from investigations by consultants appointed by the Public Prosecutor. At the conclusion of this preliminary investigation, the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested and obtained the issuance of a precautionary detention order. This order was carried out today by the Carabinieri in the province of Benevento, the suspect’s hometown, where he had gone after the crime.
