Florence, 28 Oct. (LaPresse) – Following the death of David Rossi, former head of communications at Monte dei Paschi di Siena, who fell from the window of his office in Siena, at Palazzo Salimbeni, on 6 March 2013, the Florence District Anti-Mafia Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the possibility of murder. The news was reported by *Corriere della Sera* and *Repubblica*. The investigation is understood to have been launched in recent months. Previously, two investigations by the Siena judicial authorities had been closed, concluding that Rossi’s death was a suicide. The investigation files are said to have been forwarded to the Florence Anti-Mafia District Prosecutor’s Office by the Siena Public Prosecutor’s Office, partly following a complaint lodged by Rossi’s wife, Antonella Tognazzi, and his daughter, Carolina Orlandi. The two newspapers explain that the proceedings have also incorporated documents from the parliamentary commission of inquiry, which, in its interim report presented last March, ruled out the possibility of suicide. The new investigations are reportedly focusing on the financial angle linked to the Sienese bank’s sponsorship scheme. The inquiries may concern the allocation of funds and the cuts to resources that took place prior to Rossi’s death. A case file is also said to have been opened at the Anti-Mafia Prosecutor’s Office in Brescia. The line of inquiry centres on the annual budget of 50 million managed by MPS for sponsorship purposes. Shortly before Rossi’s death, there was a cut of around ten million. Following this lead, the investigators – who are reported to have already interviewed several witnesses – are said to be assessing possible links to organised crime circles, including individuals believed to be close to the clan of ‘Ndrangheta boss Nicolino Grande Aracri.
