Milan, Oct. 22 (LaPresse) – “It is a great honour and a great emotion for me to announce that I am running for mayor of Milan. I do so convinced that a new phase for the centre-left must begin in this city, with great pride in the many things that have been done very positively over the past 15 years, but also with the determination of someone who believes that certain important issues must be tackled with great resolve and radical action.” This was stated by Pierfrancesco Majorino, leader of the Democratic Party group in the Regional Council at Palazzo Pirelli. Asked about the issues and priorities of his candidacy, Majorino replied that he intends to focus on “the cost of living, the issue of housing and access to homes, the enormous challenge of how to develop policies to support people amid the climate crisis, and employment. I believe we must truly ensure that the centre-left continues in government, putting people at the centre and first.” Regarding the prospect of a break with Giuseppe Sala’s administration, the Democratic Party politician said: “I am not obsessed with this term or with the issue of discontinuity; the point is not to look at the past, but to look to the future.” Finally, addressing the choice of the centre-left candidate, he said: “I believe this decision should be made by the parties in the coalition. I have always supported primary elections, and it goes without saying that they must be held within a clear timeframe.”
