Campobasso, 20 Oct. (LaPresse) – A number of castor oil plants have been found in Casacalenda, a short distance from the Human Sciences Sixth Form College which was the subject last Friday of the latest in a series of four digital searches ordered by the Larino Public Prosecutor’s Office as part of the investigation into the deaths of Antonella Di Ielsi and her 15-year-old daughter, Sara Di Vita. Investigators received reports of the plants’ presence, and officers from the Campobasso Mobile Squad carried out photographic surveys, also taking samples of vegetation near the school. However, checks for the presence of castor oil plants in the area are not limited to Casacalenda. In recent weeks, as confirmed to LaPresse by sources close to the investigators, plants of the same species had also been identified in the Riccia area, in the countryside around Sant’Elia a Pianisi and near Lake Occhito. The plants bore numerous seeds, the part of the plant that contains ricin. One of the questions still unanswered is, in fact, whether the poison may have been obtained from the plant’s seeds or whether a pre-prepared substance, procured through other channels, was used. At present, neither hypothesis has been confirmed.
