Milan, 14 Sept. (LaPresse) – Andrea Sempio and Alberto Stasi are both innocent. Lawyer Massimo Lovati, former defence counsel for the 38-year-old under investigation in Pavia for the aggravated murder of Chiara Poggi in Garlasco on 13 August 2007, reiterated this position before entering the first hearing of his defamation trial against the former defence lawyers of his client’s boyfriend, who has been definitively convicted of the crime, lawyers Fabio and Enrico Giarda. “Yes,” Lovati replied curtly to reporters asking whether he was still convinced of his former client’s innocence. “But also of Stasi’s,” he added, reiterating a position he has held for the past year and a half. Mr Lovati did not dispel doubts regarding the possible inclusion of Sempio as a defendant in his criminal proceedings: “He hasn’t been named as a defendant yet; we’re keeping that option open and reserve the right to name him,” he continued. “For now, he hasn’t been included.” The defence lawyer appeared unconcerned about the defamation charge and announced that “during the trial, there will be many clarifications” which could also “have an impact” on the main investigation being conducted by the Pavia Public Prosecutor’s Office.
