Rome, 5 Aug. (LaPresse) – The 55-year-old man from Riesi, who is suspected of being the prime suspect in the double attempted murder that took place on Monday morning in the centre of Nisseno, turned himself in this morning at Enna Prison, where he was served with a detention order. According to the police’s reconstruction of events, based on the testimonies of the two victims – a 58-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, both from Riesi – the pair were in the man’s car, parked in a suburban area, when they were reportedly approached by a person armed with a pistol. The attacker allegedly fired several shots at the 58-year-old, wounding him in the back of the head and in one arm, before striking the woman in the head and also wounding her in the throat with a bladed weapon. It was the 58-year-old himself who raised the alarm whilst on his way to Mazzarino Hospital with the woman. Carabinieri from the Riesi station caught up with him at A&E, where, despite being in a state of confusion, the man reportedly provided the first useful details to help identify the attacker. From that moment, a search operation was launched, led by the Carabinieri with the support of the ‘Sicilia’ Cacciatori Helicopter Squadron. Investigative inquiries led to the gathering of further evidence and a breakthrough this morning with the arrest of the 55-year-old. The investigation, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Caltanissetta, is continuing in order to piece together every detail of the incident. The 55-year-old is currently charged with attempted aggravated murder and the unlawful carrying of weapons, and has been transferred to Enna Prison.
