Birth rates: 62 per cent of Italians choose not to have children due to financial difficulties

Rome, 28 July (LaPresse) – In Italy, 62.2 per cent of people of childbearing age “say they have given up” on having children “due to economic and social difficulties”. This is according to the ‘Birth Rate Dossier 2026: Wanting or Being Able’, produced by the Foundation for the Birth Rate in collaboration with Istat. “32.0 per cent,” the report notes, “have already reached the number of children they wanted. Only 5.5 per cent say that children are not part of their life plan.”
