Rome, 27 July (LaPresse) – The Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office will not, at least for the time being, take into consideration the brief filed by lawyer Fabrizio Gallo, defence counsel for Mauro and Miriam Caroccia, containing the chat messages between the former Under-Secretary of State for Justice, Andrea Delmastro Delle Vedove, and Mauro Caroccia. Investigators believe they must await authorisation from the Chamber of Deputies before they can obtain and assess the content of the conversations as part of the investigation. The brief was filed on 24 July by the lawyer, who had requested the immediate acquisition of the messages, arguing that Parliament could not prevent their use in this specific case. According to the defence, the chat messages would play a decisive role as they would demonstrate that Mauro and Miriam Caroccia were not involved in the alleged offence and would make it possible to trace the actual owner of the business at the centre of the investigation. The Public Prosecutor’s Office, however, has decided to postpone any assessment of the documentation until such time as the Chamber of Deputies gives the go-ahead.
