Rome, 25 July (LaPresse) – “That video is crystal clear: if you watch it carefully, you can see exactly where that blood is coming from.” This is what lawyer Gabriele Bordoni, defence counsel for the two police officers whose cases are under investigation following the death of Abderrahim Fakir – the 42-year-old who died during an operation in the Pilastro district of Bologna – told LaPresse. According to the lawyer, the bodycam footage appears to show a different sequence of events to the theory that he was pinned down. “When he wriggled free from the grip, he rolled onto his side and, as he moved onto his side to bite the police officer’s calf, he injured himself on the tarmac,” explains Bordoni. “Then, when pepper spray was used, he retreated quickly and, as he pulled back, injured the back of his head again,” adds the lawyer, who believes “it is plausible that the blood then ran down his cheek”.
