Rome, 24 July (LaPresse) – With the first major weekend of holiday departures upon us, the summer exodus plan is now in full swing: in anticipation of increased traffic flows, Anas has stepped up staff deployment across the country and scaled back roadworks. From today until 7 September – Anas has announced – 1,175 roadworks sites will be closed or suspended, representing 83 per cent of those currently active (1,414). According to estimates from the Anas Road Mobility Observatory, from today until Sunday 26 July, there will be over 27 million vehicle journeys on the roads and motorways managed by the FS Group company. Traffic is expected to rise steadily across the Anas network over the last weekend of July. Viabilità Italia forecasts ‘red alert’ traffic this afternoon, tomorrow morning and Sunday afternoon: this afternoon and Saturday morning due to increasing traffic from major urban centres as people set off on their first trips and for short weekend breaks to holiday and seaside resorts; and on Sunday afternoon as people return to the major cities.
