Rome, 21 July (LaPresse) – Tensions ran high last night in Bologna during the demonstration over the death of Abderrahim Fakir, the 43-year-old who died in the Pilastro district during a police operation, in which he had been pinned to the ground and handcuffed. Scenes of street violence marred the march, with bottles being thrown and water cannons deployed. Shop windows were smashed, barriers torn down and at least two cars set alight, with the fire brigade called in to extinguish the flames. The words ‘Murderous police’ were scrawled on one of the vandalised cars, whilst slogans such as ‘State murder 20/7/26’ appeared on the walls. There are reports of at least 11 people sustaining minor injuries, including both demonstrators and officers. During the clashes, a young man was loaded onto a police van, amid protests from those present.
