Rome, 17 July (LaPresse) – A warrant for the arrest of Mario Roggero, the 72-year-old jeweller from Grinzane Cavour, in the Cuneo area, has been issued. He was definitively convicted of killing two robbers and wounding a third on 28 April 2021. The order was signed at 12.45 pm by the Asti Public Prosecutor’s Office, headed by Public Prosecutor Biagio Mazzeo. The final ruling by the Court of Cassation, handed down on Wednesday, upheld the sentence of 14 years and 9 months’ imprisonment, which had already been reduced on appeal from the 17 years originally imposed by the Asti Court of First Instance. Roggero must now report to prison. According to information obtained by LaPresse, he will report to prison this afternoon. The case concerns the shooting that took place at the family’s jewellery shop in 2021, when the shopkeeper reacted to a robbery by killing two of the criminals and wounding a third. The wife of Mario Roggero, the 72-year-old jeweller definitively sentenced to 14 years and 9 months’ imprisonment for killing two robbers and wounding a third during a robbery in 2021 in the Cuneo area, has submitted an application for a pardon and a request for a stay of execution of the sentence. These moves come after the Asti Public Prosecutor’s Office issued a committal order, following the Court of Cassation’s confirmation of the sentence. The application for a stay of execution aims to temporarily suspend the enforcement of the sentence, whilst the application for a pardon will be assessed in accordance with the procedure laid down by law.
