Genoa, 16 July (LaPresse) – The former CEO of Aspi, Giovanni Castellucci, has been sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for the collapse of the Morandi Bridge: this is the substance of the first-instance judgement handed down just minutes ago in Genoa in the trial concerning responsibility for the collapse, which claimed 43 lives on 14 August 2018. The judgement was read out in court by Judge Paolo Lepri, who presided over the panel of judges. Prosecutors Walter Cotugno and Marco Airoldi – the latter having taken over from Massimo Terrile – had sought a sentence of 18 years and 6 months’ imprisonment for Castellucci, who is currently detained at Opera Prison in Milan, where he is serving a six-year sentence for the Acqualonga viaduct disaster in Avellino. The sentence relates to the charges brought against him, including negligent causing of the collapse and multiple counts of vehicular homicide.
