Genoa, 15 July (LaPresse) – A 13-year-old girl was rescued in a serious condition and rushed to hospital after being sucked into a swimming pool drain at a beach resort in Sestri Levante. The incident occurred in a matter of seconds whilst the girl was swimming in the pool; she was sucked into the drain by her hair. The girl was submerged; she was rescued immediately, brought back to the surface and handed over to the emergency services, who arranged for her to be airlifted by helicopter to the paediatric hospital in Genoa, where she arrived in a critical condition after being resuscitated. This is the second incident of this kind to have occurred in Liguria since May, when another little girl was rescued from a swimming pool in Celle Ligure on the western coast. Investigations into the circumstances of the incident are currently being carried out by the Carabinieri and the harbour master’s office.
