Rome, 14 July (LaPresse) – “The Ranucci affair is a poisoned chalice with many accomplices.” Speaking to LaPresse, Beppe Giulietti, former president of the FNSI, commented on the case involving the presenter of *Report*, arguing that the controversy is not driven by his relationship with the businessman Valter Lavitola, but by a broader plot against the Rai 3 investigative programme. “Perhaps it would have been better to be cautious, not to associate with Lavitola, whose track record speaks for itself, but Lavitola has nothing to do with it. They want to shut down *Report*, they want to shut down the editorial team; they’re making them pay for the investigations into the Mafia and neo-fascists, and the investigations into privacy. The ‘death sentence’ was signed months and months ago; what they’re carrying out now has nothing to do with Lavitola – it’s an attempt to expel the last remaining dissenting voices from TeleMeloni. It has far more to do with the forthcoming electoral law and the debate that will ensue than with the many Lavitolas who count for nothing.”
