Milan, 13 June (LaPresse) – ‘What are you waiting for out here? Stasi isn’t here; he’s at home on leave and won’t be back until Sunday evening. You’re wasting your time here.’ With these words, some inmates from Bollate prison, on their way out to go to work, addressed the journalists who had gathered early in the morning in the car park in front of the prison entrance. The situation was also confirmed by a prison officer leaving the facility. Yesterday, the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office expressed a favourable opinion regarding the probationary release of Alberto Stasi, who has been definitively convicted of the murder of Chiara Poggi. Once the application has been filed—a step expected within five days—the former Bocconi student will be able to collect his personal belongings and leave prison. The opinion is now under review by the Supervisory Court, which is called upon to make a final ruling on the request. The decision is expected in the coming days and will be notified to the lawyers as soon as it is filed. Stasi is serving his sentence for the murder of the young woman, who was killed on 13 August 2007 at her family’s villa in Garlasco. Already admitted to the day-release scheme, he could now be granted the alternative measure that would allow him to continue serving his sentence outside the prison, under a supervised reintegration programme.
