Milan, 26 March (LaPresse) – The low-pressure system over the Adriatic, slowly moving towards southern Italy, will continue to draw in cold air from the north, bringing rain and snow, as well as strong winds, to central and southern Italy on Friday. Based on available forecasts, the Civil Protection Department has issued a yellow alert from Friday morning for parts of Emilia-Romagna, Umbria, Lazio and Sicily, and for the whole of Abruzzo, Marche, Molise, Calabria and Puglia. The warning forecasts scattered rainfall from Thursday evening, including showers and thunderstorms, over Marche, Abruzzo, Molise, Puglia (particularly the northern areas), Calabria (particularly the central and southern areas) and Sicily (particularly the Tyrrhenian and north-eastern areas). These conditions will be accompanied by heavy showers, strong gusts of wind, localised hailstorms and lightning. From the morning of Friday 27 March, the warning forecasts the persistence of gale-force winds, predominantly from the north, over Lombardy, Veneto, the Marche, Umbria, Abruzzo, Molise, Puglia, Basilicata, Sicily and Calabria. Storm surges along exposed coasts. In addition, snowfall will persist in Umbria, particularly in the eastern areas, as well as in the Marche, Abruzzo and Molise, generally above 400–600 metres, with light to moderate accumulation on the ground, becoming heavy at higher altitudes.
