Pope: “The Amazon is threatened by abuse and exploitation, an appropriate response is needed”

Rome, Mar 17 (LaPresse) – “The current context requires an appropriate response to the numerous social, environmental, cultural, and ecclesial challenges that persist in the Amazon, threatened by situations of abuse and exploitation.” This was stated by Pope Leo XIV in a video message sent to participants of the 6th Assembly of the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA), taking place in Bogotá from March 16 to 20. “Another objective of the Ecclesial Conference, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary, is to outline a Church with an ‘Amazonian face,’” the Holy Father continues, emphasizing that “this task is carried out with the conviction that, ‘through the inculturation of faith, the Church is enriched with new expressions and values, manifesting and celebrating the mystery of Christ ever more effectively, managing to unite faith more closely with life, thus contributing to a fuller catholicity, not only geographical but also cultural.’”
