Crans-Montana: Pope to family members, you who are pierced by grief and a sense of abandonment

Milan, 1 February (LaPresse) – ‘In these hours when your souls are pierced not only by suffering, but also by incomprehension and a sense of abandonment, I can only entrust you to the Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows.’ This is a passage from Pope Leo XIV’s message during the Holy Mass on the thirtieth day in memory of the victims of the fire in Crans-Montana, addressed to the families of the victims of the New Year’s Eve fire. ‘It is with deep emotion that I address all of you gathered here in grief and mourning, one month after the tragic fire in Crans-Montana that claimed so many victims. You have lost a loved one, or perhaps one of your relatives is still suffering – perhaps for a long time – from injuries that will mark them for life,’ reads the message from the Pontiff, who expresses to the families of the 41 victims “my closeness and tenderness, together with that of the whole Church, which, with its maternal presence, wishes – as far as possible – to share your burden, and which prays to the Lord Jesus to sustain your faith in this trial. I pray that you may find in your priests and Christian communities the fraternal and spiritual support you seek to overcome your pain and remain courageous.”
