School, Valditara: ‘Political exploitation of regional administration’

Milan, 14 January (LaPresse) – ‘There are clear reasons for political exploitation’ behind the failure to merge schools in Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Sardinia and Umbria, as requested by the government, and for which the four regions have been placed under administration. This was stated by Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara in an interview with the daily newspaper Il Corriere della Sera. The four regions ‘were the only ones that had not carried out the school mergers provided for in the NRRP, despite the fact that we had granted them two exemptions over the past two years, which cost us €16 million,’ explained Valditara. ‘I have read some alarmist statements by members of the opposition and the CGIL trade union that are completely false: this is making a mockery of the citizens.’ “The Constitutional Court had called on the regions to cooperate loyally,” added the minister, ‘which is what the new Campania regional council has done, promising to present its plan by the end of January. Tuscany prepared the plan correctly and then suspended it. There is no more time now, also because by the end of January we have to enrol students and organise the new school year. I don’t see why only they should not cooperate.”
