Rome, Jan. 2 (LaPresse) – Pope Leo XIV, in a telegram signed by the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, sent to Monsignor Jean-Marie Lovey, Bishop of Sion, expressed his condolences for the victims of the fire in Crans-Montana: “Having learned of the tragic fire that occurred in Crans-Montana on the night of January 1,” the Pontiff writes, “which caused more than 40 deaths and many injuries, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV joins in the mourning of the families and of the entire Swiss Confederation.” Prevost “wishes to show his compassion and concern for the relatives of the victims” and “prays that the Lord may welcome the deceased into His dwelling of peace and light, and sustain the courage of those who suffer in heart or body.”
