Turin, clashes at Askatasuna march: water cannons and tear gas used, dumpsters set on fire

Turin, Dec. 20 (LaPresse) – Clashes broke out in Turin between police and demonstrators during a march against the eviction of Askatasuna, with tear gas fired and water cannons used against activists. Tensions rose when protesters moved along Corso Regina Margherita at the corner of Via Vanchiglia in an attempt to approach the premises at number 47 Regina Margherita, which had just been cleared, encountering a police cordon defending the area that deployed water cannons and fired tear gas. A group of demonstrators then broke away from the march and began throwing bottles at law enforcement officers. Several dumpsters were overturned and set on fire, forming a barricade.
