Elkann: “We reject all violence, the attack on La Stampa was vile”

Rome, Nov. 30 (LaPresse) – “As Gedi, together with everyone at La Stampa, we will reject every act of violence and we will continue to inform our readers without being intimidated by anything or anyone.” This was stated by Exor CEO John Elkann in the newsroom of the daily newspaper, which was stormed last Friday by a group of protesters. La Stampa itself reported it. “We are here,” Elkann said, “to express our solidarity with all those who work for La Stampa and, above all, a firm condemnation of what happened last Friday. The attack that this newsroom endured was brutal and vile, a clear attempt to intimidate those who work every day to tell reality with rigor, seriousness and independence. As editor Malaguti wrote today, ‘this violent act is unacceptable’.” According to Exor’s CEO, this was an attack that was “particularly alarming because, unfortunately, it is not an isolated case: the memory of the assault on the OGR in the days when some of you were engaged in covering the Italian Tech Week is still fresh. Different times and places, but united by the same idea that violence can replace dialogue, that a voice, an opinion, can be silenced by striking it.” As Gedi, he added, “together with the editor and all of you in the newsroom, we will reject every act of violence and continue to inform readers without allowing ourselves to be intimidated by anything or anyone.”
