The shooting happened in a King Soopers chain store in Boulder
In Boulder a man walked into King Soopers and opened fire with a rifle. The suspect is a 21-year-old from a nearby Denver suburb who used an AR-15 type of assault rifle, law enforcement officials said his identity was already known because he was linked to another individual under investigation by the bureau. The death toll from the shooting is 10. Among the victims also police officer Eric Talley, 51, the first to intervene on the scene. The motive of the alleged killer, now in custody, is not yet clear.
Chief Herold said at a news conference that police officers had run into the King Soopers grocery store within minutes of the shooting and had shot at the suspect. Colorado Governor Jared Polis immediately tweeted that he was “closely watching the events unfolding at King Soopers in Boulder. My prayers are with our fellow citizens in this time of sadness and pain as we learn more about the scale of the tragedy ”.
The King Soopers chain said in a statement that it was offering prayers and support “to our associates, customers and first responders who have responded so boldly to this tragic situation.”
The deadly shooting in Boulder was the second mass shooting in the United States in less than a week.On March 16, a gunman shot and killed eight people in a spa in the Atlanta area.
