Seven Republicans senators voted to convict the former President
After a tough battle in the courtroom, the former president was acquitted. Seven GOP senators voted with Democrats to convict the former president, but well short of the 17 needed. Trump cheers, thanks his lawyers and condemns the trial of impeachment as “another phase of the biggest witch hunt in the history of our country”. At the end 10 votes were missing, which the Democrats were unable to snatch even with the harsh final arguments of the prosecution. Jamie Raskin closed the arguments of those responsible for impeachment by emphasizing the historical significance of the vote: “This – he said addressing the senators – is almost certainly the way in which they are remembered by history.”
During an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” the South Carolina RepublicanLindsey Graham told the host Chris Wallace that Trump “was grateful to his lawyers” and “appreciated the help that all of us have provided.” Graham added: “He’s ready to move on and rebuild the Republican Party. He’s excited about 2022. I’m going to go down to talk with him next week, play a little golf in Florida. And I said Mr. President, this MAGA movement needs to continue.
