AstroSamantha will take over from Russian Oleg Artemyev

Samantha Cristoforetti will soon be commander of the International Space Station. This has been confirmed by the ESA. She will thus become the first European woman to hold this position, the second Italian after Luca Parmitano. “I am honored by my appointment,” AstroSamantha’s first comment. Passing the baton to her on September 28 will be Russian commander Oleg Artemyev.
