‘Ndrangheta superboss Rocco Morabito extradited to Italy

(LaPresse) – Italian mob boss Rocco Morabito of the ‘ndrangheta criminal syndicate has been extradited to Italy from Brazil. Considered one of the world’s most dangerous international drug traffickers, the 56-year-old landed at Ciampino airport this morning. He had been arrested by Brazilian police in May in a joint operation with Carabinieri, supported by the International Police Cooperation Service and U.S. agencies DEA and FBI. He faces a 30-year sentence. Arrested in Uruguay in September 2017 by the Ros after 23 years on the lam, he had managed to escape from a Montevideo penitentiary on June 24, 2019, and his trail was lost until May 2021 when he was captured again.
