Dario Verani swam 25 kilometers in 5 hours
Italian ultra-distance swimmer Dario Verani won the gold medal in the 25 km open water race at the World Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary. The 27-year-old from Livorno covered the distance in 5 hours, 2 minutes and 22 seconds, finishing with an extraordinary sprint in the last hundred meters ahead of Frenchman Axel Reymond. Bronze went to the Hungarian Peter Galicz. Italy’s Matteo Furlan finished in seventh place. Verani’s medal is the twentieth medal for the Italian team in this edition of the World Cup, and the ninth gold.
