Gang profits reached 2.5 million euros, say police
(LaPresse) In Palermo, Sicily, Italian financial police charged 14 people in a regional cigarette smuggling operation, and seized 2.5 million euros.
Police say the gang trafficked over nine tons of cigarettes in just seven months, bringing the cigarettes from Palermo to Naples. Police allege the traffickers bought the cigarettes in Naples for 21 euros per carton, resold them in the capital of Palermo at wholesale at 28 euros and retail at 35 euros, for a total profit of 2.5 million euros.
