(LaPresse) King Charles III has vowed to follow in the footsteps of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and work for peace in Northern Ireland. Speaking in Belfast to Northern Irish political leaders, including some of the nationalist parties that would like Northern Ireland to leave the United Kingdom and become part of the Republic of Ireland, Charles said he would follow Elizabeth’s “shining example” and seek the welfare of all. The speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Irish nationalist Alex Maskey, in a message of condolence to Charles III praised Queen Elizabeth II’s role in the peace process.
