Rome, May 14 (LaPresse) – The 2026 Blue Flags were awarded today by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to coastal municipalities and tourist marinas. This year, they fly in 257 municipalities and 87 tourist marinas. The award ceremony took place in Rome at the CNR headquarters. In total, there are 525 Italian Blue Flag beaches, accounting for approximately 11.6% of the global total. Among the new additions are Amendolara and Locri in Calabria, Rimini in Emilia-Romagna, Lipari in Sicily, and Monte Argentario in Tuscany. The event recognized locations with bathing waters that were rated excellent based on an assessment of the past four years, as determined by the results of analyses conducted by regional environmental protection agencies. The program’s 33 criteria are periodically updated to encourage participating local governments to commit to resolving and improving, over time, issues related to land management for the careful protection of the environment.
