Milan, Oct. 21 (LaPresse) – Cesare Cremonini presented ‘Amateur’, his tenth album of original material, in London last night. The album will be released on October 23. At the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, the songs written during the months spent in the studio in London were performed before an audience for the first time, in an evening that showcased all the energy and freedom with which the record was conceived. Joining him were Salmo, Fabri Fibra and Malika Ayane, Donny McCaslin and an international superband. Recorded between London and Bologna, the new album follows the stadium tour that marked the high point of Cremonini’s live career. This is where it all begins: with the decision not to turn what has been achieved into a formula to be repeated, and with the desire to return to the studio and follow the songs without deciding in advance where they would lead. The title embodies this idea. In its original meaning, ‘Amateur’ refers to someone who does something because they love it. At the heart of the album are live music-making and encounters with different personalities. Salmo, Fabri Fibra and Malika Ayane became part of the songs, each bringing their own language and identity, going well beyond the logic of a simple collaboration. Alongside them, ‘Amateur’ also grew out of encounters with musicians from different backgrounds and musical worlds, including Donny McCaslin, Tim Lefebvre, Malcolm Catto, Paul Stacey, Jeremy Stacey and Zach Danziger. They were specifically sought out and chosen for what each could contribute to the music and sound of the album. The evening’s setlist, which covered the album’s tracklist and more, was as follows: ‘Amateur’ with Salmo, ‘Paparazzi’ with Fabri Fibra, ‘Cavalli da corsa’, ‘Non lo diciamo a nessuno’, ‘Il giardino di sassofoni’, ‘Perché ti conosco’, ‘Mega Linz’, ‘Cose molto piccole’ with Malika Ayane, ‘Disturbo Mentale’ with Sig, ‘Solo e solamente’, ‘Athena’. The setlist was completed by two tributes: Lou Reed’s ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ and Ben E. King’s ‘Stand by Me’. Starting November 24, the ‘Amatour’ will take the new album to indoor arenas.
