(LaPresse) – The film world mourns: Abbe Lane, the captivating actress who starred in films alongside Glenn Ford and Cornel Wilde and built a thriving singing career alongside her former husband, the famous bandleader Xavier Cugat, has died aged 93. She passed away on 25 April from natural causes in Los Angeles, as her son Steven Leff told The Hollywood Reporter. Having made a name for herself as a ‘femme fatale’, she enjoyed great popularity in Italy, where, from 1955 onwards, she appeared alongside her husband in a number of successful television shows (such as *Casa Cugat* and *Il Giocondo*, among others) and starred in several films, including Camillo Mastrocinque’s *Totò, Vittorio e la dottoressa* (1957), with Totò and Vittorio De Sica, and Steno’s *Totò, Eva e il pennello proibito* (1959), also starring Totò, Louis de Funès and Mario Carotenuto. In 1955, she appeared as herself in *Lo scapolo*, directed by Antonio Pietrangeli, alongside Alberto Sordi. During those years, she also attracted some criticism for her exuberant sensuality, which was considered excessive by the standards of the time. Alongside Tony Randall, she starred in the 1958 Broadway musical *Oh Captain!* (1958), directed by José Ferrer. As a television personality, she was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6385 Hollywood Boulevard.
