Rome, July 11 (LaPresse) – Mourning in the world of music. Peppino di Capri has died at the age of 86. The celebrated artist passed away this morning on his beloved island after a long illness, where he was born on July 27, 1939. A refined pianist and elegant singer, di Capri was the author of songs that have become part of Italy’s collective memory. Among his best-known songs are ‘Champagne’, ‘Roberta’, ‘Il sognatore’, ‘St. Tropez Twist’. He took part in fifteen editions of the Sanremo Festival, winning twice, in 1973 with ‘Un grande amore e niente più’ and in 1976 with ‘Non lo faccio più’. His melodies accompanied Italy from the economic boom of the 1960s through to the new millennium. He leaves three children: Igor, born from his first wife Roberta Stroppa, and Edoardo and Daria, with Giuliana Gagliardi.
