Turin, 16 March (LaPresse) – The Oscars ceremony crowned “One Battle After Another”, which won the Best Picture award, beating “Sinners-I Peccatori”, the other major pre-ceremony favourite. Paul Thomas Anderson’s film, which won Best Director, took home a total of six statuettes, including Best Supporting Actor (Sean Penn, who skipped the ceremony), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing and, for the first time ever in Oscar history, Best Casting. Michael B. Jordan, who played the dual role of twin brothers Smoke and Stack in “Sinners”, won the Oscar for Best Actor. He beat the other pre-ceremony favourite, Timothée Chalamet, for his role in “Marty Supreme”. The award for Best Actress went instead to Irish actress Jessie Buckley for her performance in ‘Hamnet’, directed by Chloe Zhao. ‘Sentimental Value’, a Norwegian film directed by Joachim Trier, won the Oscar for Best International Feature Film. On stage, quoting the American writer James Baldwin, the director said that “all adults are responsible for all children”, adding that “you should not vote for politicians who do not accept this”.
