(LaPresse) – “The judges at the Milan Court of Appeal have confirmed the closure of the hot area at the former Ilva site, rejecting Acciaierie d’Italia’s request for a stay of proceedings. Following this decision, we believe it is essential that the Government responds to the demands set out in the extraordinary national plan for the social security and revitalisation of the former Ilva site and immediately convenes the permanent round-table at Palazzo Chigi.” This was stated in a joint statement by the Fim, Fiom and Uilm trade unions. “Workers are demanding answers on the future of the former Ilva site, and the manufacturing sector is waiting to find out the fate of steel production in our country; we will not passively accept a plan that results in years of redundancy payments and redundancies that have already been announced. We must prevent a social crisis from erupting through both ordinary and extraordinary measures. We must protect the workers, who are the first victims of the decisions made by those who have held and continue to hold decision-making responsibilities. A halt to redundancies must be implemented immediately!”, the trade unions conclude.
