(LaPresse) – To mark the honour bestowed today by the City of Naples upon Shepard Fairey, known worldwide as Obey, Intesa Sanpaolo’s Gallerie d’Italia have announced the extension of the exhibition ‘OBEY: Power to the peaceful’, curated by Giuseppe Pizzuto, until 13 September. The honour bestowed by the City of Naples bears witness to the value of a journey which, beginning with the exhibition *OBEY: Power to the peaceful* at the Gallerie d’Italia – which opened on 6 May – has fostered a profound dialogue between Shepard Fairey and the city. The artist’s presence in Naples has, in fact, created opportunities for engagement and participation that have extended beyond the museum’s walls, involving the urban space, institutions and the local community around the themes of peace, collective responsibility and civic engagement. Michele Coppola, Executive Director of Art, Culture and Historical Heritage at Intesa Sanpaolo and General Manager of Gallerie d’Italia, states: “We are particularly pleased with the City of Naples’ recognition of Shepard Fairey, as it confirms the deep bond between Gallerie d’Italia, the city and its institutions. Bringing Obey’s work into the museum highlights the power of an art venue that opens its doors to a leading figure in street art, whilst keeping the dialogue with local neighbourhoods alive, as has been the case in Ponticelli and at the Diocesan Museum. We are taking part in this tribute with the exceptional decision to extend the ‘Power to the Peaceful’ exhibition by seven days, to allow everyone to visit the Salone Toledo at Gallerie d’Italia, which is showcasing 150 works by Obey, whilst reminding visitors that entry to our museums is free for those aged 25 and under.”
