Milan, Aug. 6 (LaPresse) – In June, seasonally adjusted retail trade volume fell by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.1% in the European Union, according to estimates from Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office. In May 2026, retail trade volume had increased by 0.4% in the euro area and by 0.6% in the EU. On a year-over-year basis, the seasonally adjusted retail sales index rose by 0.7% in the euro area and by 1.2% in the EU. Among the member states for which data are available, the largest monthly declines in total retail trade volume were recorded in Finland (-1.5%), Romania (-1.2%), and Germany (-1.1%). The highest increases were observed in Luxembourg (+2.5%), Portugal (+1.7%), Croatia, and Sweden (both +1.5%). Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest annual increases in total retail trade volume were recorded in Luxembourg (+8.3%), Sweden (+7.2%), and Bulgaria (+7.1%). Declines were observed in Romania (-6.6%), Austria (-0.3%), Belgium, and Germany (both -0.1%).
