Rome, 28 July (LaPresse) – Eni has reached the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the development of the Cronos project in Cyprus’s offshore Block 6, with the aim of starting production of the first Cypriot gas by 2028. The project, operated by Eni, will enable the development of a field containing over 3 trillion cubic feet of gas initially in place, with production expected to reach around 500 million standard cubic feet per day at full capacity. The gas will be transported to and processed at the existing Zohr infrastructure in Egypt, before being liquefied at the Damietta LNG plant and exported mainly to European markets. The project, operated by Eni, will enable the Cronos field, located in Block 6 and containing over 3 Tcf of gas initially in place (GIIP), to come on stream. Production is expected to reach a plateau of approximately 500 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d). The gas will be transported to and processed at the existing Zohr infrastructure in Egypt, before being transferred to and liquefied at the Damietta LNG plant and exported as liquefied natural gas (LNG) to international markets, primarily in Europe.
