Rome, June 10 (LaPresse) – The Fer X mechanism “represents yet another rebuttal of the alleged opposition to renewables promoted by those who speak about renewables only through slogans, criticizing a government that has increased them by more than 30% since 2023.” This was stated by Environment and Energy Security Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin during question time in the Chamber of Deputies. “This new mechanism is part of the pragmatic and realistic path adopted by the government since taking office to strengthen the country’s energy independence, progressively reduce reliance on gas, and contain both the level and volatility of energy prices,” Pichetto continued, referring to the Fer X mechanism for the development of renewable energy sources. “The contracting of energy through contracts for difference,” Pichetto added, “will ensure for increasingly larger quantities of energy a de facto decoupling from gas prices and a benefit in terms of reducing the Asos component of energy bills when energy prices are high.” In Italy there has been “significant growth in renewables, which over the last three years have recorded more than 20 GW (gigawatts) of installed capacity, reaching by the end of 2025 a total capacity of 43.5 GW of photovoltaic power and 13.3 GW of wind power,” the minister concluded.
