Milan, 30 April (LaPresse) – “A shock rise. A real blow caused by the effects of the war. The attack on Iran is having disastrous consequences on inflation, as widely predicted. Whilst the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz in March had already led to the first price rises for fuel, regulated-market gas, intercontinental flights and certain types of fruit and vegetables, it has now had far more severe repercussions, and the epidemic has not only spread but is set to expand further in the coming months.” This is according to Massimiliano Dona, president of the National Consumers’ Union, commenting on Istat’s inflation figures for April, which rose to 2.8% from 1.7% in March. “A year-on-year inflation rate of 2.8% means, for a couple with two children, an overall increase in the cost of living of €1,053 per year – a real blow – with €287 for food and non-alcoholic drinks alone, and €304 for the shopping basket. For a couple with one child, the total additional annual cost is €966, €252 for food and drink alone, and €269 for the shopping basket. On average, the hit for a family is €753, €198 for food and drink,” concludes Dona.
