Stellantis recalls 700 thousand vehicles due to potential fire risk

Milan, 1 April. (LaPresse) – Stellantis is recalling 700,000 hybrid vehicles worldwide due to a fire risk, including models from the Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Jeep brands. Over 50,000 of these vehicles are found in Germany. In France, the recall affects 212,000 vehicles produced between 2023 and 2026, more than half of which are Peugeots. This was announced by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). Stellantis explains that this is “a potential problem relating to the clearance between the petrol particulate filter tube and the belt starter generator. Some Peugeot, Citroën, Ds Automobiles, Opel/Vauxhall, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Jeep and Fiat vehicles produced between 2023 and 2026 – he specifies – may have been assembled with insufficient clearance between the petrol particulate filter tube and the protective cap of the 48V belt starter generator, there is a possibility that this insufficient clearance and possible contact between these components could cause water infiltration, generating an electrical arc that could trigger a thermal event, such as overheating, which could lead to a potential fire risk in the engine compartment. Stellantis “will immediately contact the owners of the affected vehicles, asking them to contact the dealer to make an appointment. The intervention takes approximately 30 minutes and is carried out free of charge”.
