Rome, 20 March (LaPresse) – Italy’s water supply network loses on average almost 38 litres for every 100 litres fed into the system. This is according to the new ‘Blue Book’, a comprehensive report on water service data compiled by the Utilitatis Foundation and sponsored by Utilitalia, which was presented today in Rome. The sample considered by the study covers “over 324,000 km of network, 30% of which is over 30 years old, and records average losses of 37.9%”. According to the “Blue Book”, ‘critical issues also remain regarding service continuity, flooding – up to 27 incidents per 100 km in the South – and the reuse of wastewater, which stands at 3.4% against a potential of 13.4%’. At the same time – the document continues – ” drinking water quality remains high, with very few instances of non-compliance, and the data on operators’ attention to the analysis and monitoring of the resource stands out: 4.4 million parameters analysed in 2024 from 295,000 samples‘, 197% more than the minimum number of samples required by law, ’demonstrating a particularly intensive level of monitoring” .
