Milan, 20 March (LaPresse) – The number of petrol stations that have reduced petrol and diesel prices following the government’s excise duty cut is rising significantly: according to the latest survey at 3.00 pm by the Mimit Fuel Price Observatory, 87.7% of service stations along the road and motorway network have adjusted their prices downwards (compared to almost 60% recorded this morning at 8.00 am). This adjustment is also reflected in the average fuel prices: at 3.00 pm, the average self-service price on the national road network stood at €1.712 per litre for petrol and €1.958 per litre for diesel. On the motorway network, the average self-service price was €1.788 per litre for petrol and €2.030 per litre for diesel. At the same time, the percentage of service stations that, in addition to not yet having adjusted their prices to the excise duty cut, had actually increased them, has more than halved – from 11.4% to 4.5%. This is partly due to the checks carried out by the Guardia di Finanza, ordered by the Price Surveillance Authority under the new special regime provided for by the decree-law approved by the Government. These checks will continue across the entire network and throughout the supply chain, and their findings will also be forwarded to the Italian Competition and Market Authority for the possible initiation of penalty proceedings and, in cases of criminal relevance, to the judicial authorities.
