Istat: unemployment rate continues to fall, reaching 5.6% in December

Milan, 30 January (LaPresse) – In December 2025, the unemployment rate fell further to 5.6%, after already reaching its lowest level since the start of the historical series in 2004 in November (5.7%). This was indicated by Istat when it released provisional data on employment and unemployment. The inactivity rate rose to 33.7% (33.5% in November). In December 2025, according to provisional estimates released by Istat, the number of employed persons was 24 million 142 thousand, down from the previous month (-0.1%, equal to -20 thousand units). The employment rate fell to 62.5%. In December 2025, the number of employed persons exceeded that of December 2024 by 0.3% (+62,000). The employment rate remained unchanged over the year.
