Labor, Bombardieri: “No one should think of limiting the right to strike”

Rome, Nov. 17 (LaPresse) – In an interview with Repubblica, Uil Secretary Pierpaolo Bombardieri criticizes the idea of limiting constitutional rights such as the right to strike, calling the list of strikers a “media stunt” by some politician. Regarding the decision not to join the Cgil strike against the government’s economic plan, Bombardieri explains that the choice was shared with the union base, highlighting the success achieved with the tax relief on contract renewals, a key issue for Uil. He believes that trade union unity has not been surpassed, but emphasizes that the union is stronger when united, while acknowledging the different sensitivities within it. On the economic plan, he criticizes decisions on taxes, healthcare, and pensions, arguing that the government made mistakes, such as in the case of the cancellation of tax debt and the changes to “Opzione donna.” On building amnesty, Bombardieri calls it a mistake, warning that the country risks turning into a “jungle” of fiscal and real estate amnesties. Finally, he reaffirms Uil’s battle to eliminate fake contracts, raise wages, and implement Article 39 of the Constitution, starting with the measurement of union representation based on membership and votes. The minimum wage is seen as a positive step but must be aligned with the most representative contracts and accompanied by fundamental rights, such as those related to leave and severance pay.
