Rome, Oct. 6 (LaPresse) – The general secretaries of Fim, Fiom, and Uilm – Ferdinando Uliano, Michele De Palma, and Rocco Palombella – have announced a strike on October 16 at all former Ilva sites.
In a joint statement, they strongly condemned learning from the press about the details of the bids to acquire ex Ilva, particularly that of Bedrock Industries, which reportedly includes only 2,000 jobs in Taranto and just over 1,000 in other sites.
“We find the silence from Palazzo Chigi unacceptable,” they added, “as the government has yet to call a meeting on the tender process and the bids submitted, despite our repeated requests.”
They also criticized the unilateral government decisions on managing the extraordinary layoff fund (CIGS), which “effectively broke off all existing relations.”
“For these reasons, we have launched a series of assemblies at group sites, culminating in a mobilization and strike across all plants on October 16. It’s time for clear choices,” the metalworkers’ unions stressed, urging the government to take control of ex Ilva with strong public intervention to guide its transition and revival.
