Carrying 24,000 containers, the ship is as long as four football fields.

(LaPresse) China has launched the world’s largest container ship. Designed and built by Shangati Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group, the giant of the sea is 400 meters long, has 24,000 square meters of deck space, and can hold 24,000 standard containers, for a total load of 240,000 tons of goods. The ship uses hydrokinetic optimization technology to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. She will cover routes from the Far East to Europe.

The builder said it has received nine orders for similar ships, and expects to deliver three  by the end of this year.
