The system can potentially launch long-range rockets as well
The Biden administration has confirmed that it will send a small number of high-tech and medium-range missile systems to Ukraine. Ukrainian leaders have long been asking for the systems, to halt the Russian advance into the Donbas. American officials said the plan calls for the dispatch of the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System ( HIMARS ), mounted on a truck and capable of carrying a container with six rockets. This armament can launch medium- and long-range missiles, The Army Tactical Missile System, which has a range of about 300 kilometers, is not part of the plan.
The missile systems are part of a new $ 700 million tranche of military aid to Kiev that will include helicopters, Javelin anti-tank weapon systems, tactical vehicles, spare parts and more, two senior administration officials said Tuesday. The package will be officially presented on Wednesday. Biden said earlier this week that the United States would not send Ukraine “missile systems capable of striking Russia,” but revised that comment, after receiving assurances from Ukraine that the missiles would not be used for attacks inside Russian territory.
