Broad mandate seen as key to stopping spread of Covid-19
In a sweeping effort to control the spread of Covid-19, President Joe Biden ordered new federal rules that will require up to 100 million Americans to be vaccinated, including 17 million U.S. health care workers, all 2.1 million federal employees, and anyone working in a company with more than 100 employees.
“We’ve been patient. But our patience is wearing thin, and your refusal has cost all of us,” Biden said. The unvaccinated minority “can cause a lot of damage, and they are,” the Associated Press reported.
Republican leaders and some union chiefs accused Biden was going too far, while the American Medical Association, the National Association of Manufacturers and the Business Roundtable expressed support for a broader vaccination requirement.
